When Should You Start?
In Ohio, the mowing season typically runs from April through November. This timeframe is general and, of course, dependent on the weather.
When the grass starts growing again and the temperatures are consistently above 40 degrees Fahrenheit, you are officially in mowing season.
Mowing season typically ends around November when the temperature is consistently low enough for the grass to enter its dormant stage and stop growing for the winter.
Planning your beautiful garden looks a little different depending on what point in the year you got the idea, and what your current gardening space looks like.
If you got the idea mid-summer, pay attention to your plants as you get closer to the falls months. Which plants did well, which plants could be replaced with better options? Inspired in early spring? Be ready to plant right away!
If you are planning on expanding an existing garden, or building one for the first time, you want to be ready to go when spring hits. It is wise to start working with a company to plan this in fall the year before you want the project to begin.
Weeding is a year-round effort but it can be broken down a bit further for the most effective, long-lasting results.
Fall is perfect timing to pull broadleaf weeds, henbit, deadnettle, and the common chick-weed. This time of year these weeds roots systems are less active.
Spring is when dandelions and clover are growing and those should be dealt with as soon as they pop up to avoid seeding and infestation.
